How to Read a Citation

A guide to help you figure out how to decipher a citation, in any style!

Citation for a Website

A citation for a website will include a very different source element - the URL or Uniform Resource Locator. Many citation styles include two dates for a citation of a website: one date for when you accessed the website and another when the information on the website was published or last updated (if known). Here is an example formatted in the APA style:


 

Remember that the source element is important for the person who might be trying to locate your original resource. For a website citation, the dates also become important, as information on the internet can change often.
