ENG 2310 American. Literary Cultures: Major Authors

Resources and strategies in support of the broad survey of American literature class with a focus on the specific authors generally studied in that class.

A Few Starting Points

The links here will provide you with a good introduction to the author, his/her works, and the influences behind those works. Use these as a starting point for further research, or to help you grasp the importance of a work or author in relation to the rest of American literature. Search for the specific author you are looking for.

What's Here

For most of the major authors prior to 1900, I have provided a link to print or electronic collections of their works. Where available, I have chosen the editions published by The Library of America which are authoritative, accessible, and also collect several works in one volume. For author's whose works are not in The Library of America series, you will want to consult the Primary Texts section of the Oxford Bibliography entry for each author.
