Purpose

The purpose of this guide is to provide library instructors with inspiration, ideas, and information about teaching information literacy concepts in the classroom. The library supports several types of literacies (in addition to information literacy) under the "metaliteracy" umbrella including topics like data, media, maker, visual, and primary-source literacies. The ACRL Framework talks about metaliteracy as a “renewed vision” of information literacy as an overarching set of abilities in which students are consumers and creators of information who can participate successfully in collaborative spaces. Information literacy in the traditional sense is really just one aspect of this larger picture.

This guide focuses specifically on the information literacy component under the metaliteracy umbrella.

Audience

This is an internal guide meant to serve library instructors across the Baylor Libraries (from Research & Engagement, Special Collections, and any other department that teaches information literacy instruction).
