Recording Logs in Kaltura: Web Browser

How to record logs for Kaltura troubleshooting.

Recording Logs in Your Browser

Built-in Log Recording

Kaltura has created a quick and easy way to record network traffic logs, which help them diagnose problems. This can be done in either Canvas or Mediaspace.

NOTE: You'll need to record logs from within the application (Canvas or Mediaspace) that is giving the error.

Recording Logs in Canvas

Open a new tab and copy the following URL into the address bar: 1900341.kaf.kaltura.com/start-record. Then press Enter. You will end up at a page that looks like this:

undefined

Next, go back to your original tab and attempt to reproduce the error. Walk through all the same steps you did when you first encountered the error. Once you have reproduced the issue, navigate to your second tab (that you opened to record logs) and copy the following URL into the address bar: 1900341.kaf.kaltura.com/end-record. Then press Enter. You should see a page with a long string of characters, like this:

undefined

Copy this string of characters and send them to Andy_Clark1@baylor.edu along with an explanation of your issue.

Recording Logs in Mediaspace

Open a new tab and copy the following URL into the address bar: mediaspace.baylor.edu/start-record. Then press Enter. You will end up at a page that looks like this:

undefined

Next, go back to your original tab and attempt to reproduce the error. Walk through all the same steps you did when you first encountered the error. Once you have reproduced the issue, navigate to your second tab (that you opened to record logs) and copy the following URL into the address bar: mediaspace.baylor.edu/end-record. Then press Enter. You should see a page with a long string of characters, like this:

undefined

Copy this string of characters and send them to Andy_Clark1@baylor.edu along with an explanation of your issue.

Recording Logs Using Developer Tools

Occasionally, the built-in function for recording logs does not work. In these instances, you will need to use Developer Tools within Google Chrome.

To do this, open the Google Chrome browser and navigate to Canvas. Press F12 to open Developer Tools. You should see a pane appear on the right side of your browser window:

undefined

Next, make sure you are on the Network tab and that the Record icon is red, which means it is actively recording:

Now attempt to reproduce the error. Walk through all the same steps you did when you first encountered the error. You will see a number of items appear in the pane. Once you have reproduced the issue, hover over the network traffic and Right click > Save all as HAR with content:

undefined

This will save the log as a .har file that can be sent to Kaltura for diagnosis. Email this file to Andy_Clark1@baylor.edu with an explanation of your issue.
